Why I didn't want to do anything I was good at for a business.

Everyone says "do what you're Good at". Why this might not be the best advice.
I spent years being told to do things that I seemed to be good at and create a business from that, but I never really wanted to. It felt like a lot of pressure. I see it in our clients too. They have a love of something but the minute they try to turn it into a business, they stall. You may have experienced this yourself. It's not a failing, you may not have found your REAL passion yet.
Across my life I've tried every craft going, apart from knitting which I'm useless at - too many numbers! I seem to be able to turn my hand to most things, I even cut my daughters and Matt's hair (yes, it's my fault!). I know this is a common trait for those of us with ADHD, and it can feel frustrating when it just doesn't work out, usually because we get bored.
Whether it's cake making, sewing (I have a fashion degree after all), painting or any other thing I turn my hand to, people have kindly suggested I do it to make money. But as soon as I thought about it being a business, I just didn't want to do it any more. There were a few years when my daughters were small that I set up an embroidery business but in reality it was an expensive hobby. I absolutely hated anything to do with pricing and selling. As a heads up, if you don't want to sell what you do, you can't make money from it!
My Focus Changed.
My focus changed when I discovered coaching and NLP. As soon as those arrived in my life I felt at home. I was easily able to complete my training while being organised (something I find difficult). I then dragged several of my coaching buddies through their training so they finished it too.
The joy of helping people change their lives and do what they really want to do is my mission. It happens that in teaming up with Matt (my husband and Q Branch co-founder), we are doing that by helping people build their business brand, and when we invited John Gallifant to join us to work on business Operational Excellence, we created our model of FUSION. It's a combination of Brand, Mindset/People and Ops in one system; that is the key to building future business.
But my work is still the same.
It's still based on relationships, communication, confidence, finding out who you really are so you can build the life you want.
Just because we work in businesses, doesn't mean we don't work with people. In fact, it's even more important that we do. Because if we ignore the people, nothing else works. If we ignore brand we are building on foundations of sand and if we ignore operational excellence, everything collapses in a heap.
